Guatemala | Highlighting its Tourism Potential Abroad

 

Guatemala, Central American country facing the Pacific Ocean to the West and the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea to the east, home of rainforests,volcanoes, suggestive coffee fields, remote, captivating villages and ancient Mayan sites through its President Bernardo Arévalo and Harris Whitbeck, the Director of INGUAT, Harris Whitbeck government institution of tourism, which aims at promoting the domestic and incoming tourism, discussed the tourism outlook in the country highlighting its potential abroad.

Guatemala, emergent, tourist destination in Central America celebrated a 15% increase in non -residents tourist arrivals in 2024, with more than 3 million of international visitors, which is equivalent to 19% above pre - pandemic figures, representing a very relevant achievement for the country.

The Director of INGUAT explained that the narrative of Guatemala abroad is changing  and with the Nation's President agreed that the country protects numerous treasures that can be appreciated, encouraging visits in less crowded places to avoid overtourism in consecrated destinations, such as Antigua Guatemala, Lake Atitlan and Tikal, authentic jewels to discover and enjoy for their historic,  cultural and natural charm.

For the Director of INGUAT, his entity uses several methods to measure the level of incoming tourism, many of them endorsed by UN Tourism, the specialized agency of the United Nations which promotes responsible, sustainable and universally - accessible tourism.

INGUAT makes use of big data to analyze the behaviour of tourism, such as sites visited, number of days spent in the country, among other aspects and with the application of technological tools, it is possible to create intelligent campaigns to attract tourists on specific dates from different parts of the world and in addition credit card allows them to track the consumption and economic spillover left by visitors.

These results are better results and they permit to launch a campaign to promote Guatemala on the iconic London buses or elsewhere highlighting Guatemala tourism potential abroad.
