The Executive Board for Joint Tourism Promotion of Mercosur, acronym for the Mercado Común del Sur, the Southern Common Market of South America established as a regional trade agreement in 1991 launched a webinar held in Madrid, Spain, a tourist initiative named “ South America, one place, several worlds” aimed to present the Spanish and European market to promote routes in South America.
The initiative seeks to position South America as a competitive destination in Europe and this event was attended by 70 travel agents and media from Spain, reinforcing the importance of this unified promotion, a proposal consisting in a collaboration between the Ministries of Tourism of Mercosur which includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.
“ South America, one place, several worlds” aims to create combined tourist routes between member countries, highlighting the diversity and attractiveness of South America as a continent full of opportunities, for nature, culture, adventure tourism and much more.
Among the tourist routes that will be promoted there are some iconic itineraries such as the Jesuit Trail, the Patagonia Route, the Greater Rivers Route, the Jungle Route, the Puna Route, the Wine Route and the Oceanic Route that will allow tourists to discover and explore multiple destinations in a single trip, promoting a comprehensive and diverse tourism experience.
During the presentation of this projects, the organizers emphasized the relevant cultural and natural richness of the South American region, highlighting that the combination of its different landscapes, experiences and a large variety of options and activities make it an ideal destination for European tourists.
In addition the hospitality and authenticity of the tourist offer of South America were mentioned as pillars and key factors in attracting international travellers, who can enjoy in a vast territory, unique and memorable experiences.
It should be noted that tourism is a key driver for the economic development of Mercosur countries, and the initiative “ South America, one place, several worlds” is expected to increase the flow of international tourists, in addition to generating higher revenues.
The unified promotion of these routes will encourage sustainable tourism, based on respect for the environment and local communities, a strategy which seeks not only South America’s visibility in the European Market, but also strenghten ties between the countries of the region and members of Mercosur, boosting relevant cooperations and growth of the sector in the long term.
