Colombia | An Outstanding Market for Business Tourism

Colombia, a country of South America, highlighted by a relevant historic and cultural heritage, a rich biodiversity, vibrant and lively cities and stunning varied landscapes all around its territory, from the Andes mountain range to the idyllic beaches on the Pacific Ocean and the Carribbean Sea is consolidating itself as an outstanding market for business tourism.

In 2024, international visitors for business purposes grew by 27% and the months between September and November were those that concentrated most of the visits in the year.

Despite the fact that leisure tourism represents the majority of the reasons of those who visit Colombia which boasts a large offer in several segments and niches, business tourism has been a segment that, over the years, has gained important ground, which leads to the development of the national economy and its integration into the world market.

Very interesting data highlight the Colombian departments that in 2024 concentrated the highest number of international visitors who reached the South American country for business and they were: the capital Bogotá with a share of 65%, Antioquia, with 13%, Bolivar, with 8%, Valle del Cauca, 4% and Atlántico, with 3%.

The countries that concetranted the largest participation in the arrival of travellers for business purposes were the United States of America with 14%, Mexico, with 11%, Brazil, with 10%, and finally Ecuador, Chile, Peru and Spain all with 6%.

However, among the countries that revealed the highest variations were Guatemala, with an increase of 56%, the Dominican Republic, 54%, China, 51%, Honduras 47% and Bolivia with 45% among others, the above compared to 2023.

The Executive President of ANATO, the Colombian Association of Travel and Tourism, Paula Cortés Calle explained that business tourism is a great opportunity for Colombia, allowing the consolidation of the country as a business destination and thus to strengthening relations with other countries to continue this positive momentum.

It is essential to continue investing in technology and infrastructure to have more and better convention centers, greater air and land connectivity, airport modernization, international tourism promotion with a focus on this segment and the creation of experiences, which can integrate their main reason for travel, with other activities, so that tourists are encouraged to extend their stay in the country.
