Mexico | New National Strategy to Enhance and Promote the “Pueblos Magicos”

Mexico, country in the south portion of North America, a very demanded tourist destination in the international scene for its varied offer, a nation boasting a very rich historic and cultural heritage, vibrant and lively cities, stunning beaches on the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, dramatic landscapes composed by rugged mountains, deserts, forests, ideal destination for MICE tourism is managing a new national strategy to enhance and promote its "Pueblos Magicos",  the magical town.

"Pueblos Magicos" is a programme developed by an initiative led by Mexico Secreatariat of Tourism launched in 2001 with support from other federal agencies which aims to promote a series of towns all around the national territory that offer visitors, historical relevance, cultural richness, a traditional cuisine, production of art crafts and providing a warm hospitality and it is intended to increase tourism to more localities especially smaller centres in rural areas, sites that after an accurate analysis are awarded with the title of "Pueblo Magico".

On behalf of the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Josefina Rodriguez Zamora, the General Director of Social Management of Destinations, Marte Luis Molina Orozco, presented the New National Strategy of the "Pueblos Magicos", the Magical Towns.

In a virtual meeting, it was reported that the new strategy focuses on returning to the essence of the appointment, seeks the consolidation of production chains and above all, technological innovation to enhance in an innovative way the destinations.

Before members of the Commission, which was chaired by Deputy Tania Pacios Kuri, the General Director of Social Management of Destinations reported on the importance and reengineering of the public policy that frames the "Pueblos Magicos" in which new strategies are formulated to develop tourism projects that meet their main needs.

The Ministry of Tourism highlight that it is important to be able to integrate all the actors in the sector, so it invited legislators to participate in the development of a destination management strategy, through five sstrategic points and these are :

·       Planning and development

·       Innovation with equipment and tourism infrastructure

·       Tourism services and quality with training, professionalization and certification

·       Promotion and advertising with a comprehensive communication strategy

·       Digitalisation and strategic alliances

The General Director of Social Management of Destinations also pointed out that the guidelines for this appointment are being updated, with a self - evaluation system and clear classifications, in a joint work with agencies and entities of the Government of Mexico, state and municipal governments, as well as with strategic allies, civil society and citizen committees.
