Uruguay’s new flag carrier will be called SUA Lineas Aéreas, a startup airline based in the Uruguayan capital Montevideo projected and developed to transform air connectivity in Latin America.
The company will begin its first flight in October 2025 as revealed airBaltic, legally incorporated as AS Air Baltic Corporation, the carrier of Latvia and partner of the new Latin American airline that was presented announcing connections with Argentina in a new step in its air connectivity.
The creation of the company will seek to improve regional connectivity and promote tourism, it could operate as early as this year and it has flights projected to link Argentina and the region.
SUA Lineas Aéreas will operate with the technical support of the European company airBaltic, planning to connect Uruguay with strategic destinations in the region such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Paraguay.
The carrier still lacks the necessary permits to operate, so an authorization from the National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure is expected and the project plans to start operations at the end of 2025 and to be able to progressively expand its fleet.
SUA Lineas Aéreas will start six aircraft in its fleet and expects to reach a total of 18 aircraft in three years, generating 300 direct jobs and 1.500 indirect jobs.
SUA’ s CEO Antonio Rama said that the incorporation of the A220 - 300 will ne key to operating regional routes efficiently and sustainability, highlighting 25% lower fuel consumption compared to other models.
