Ecuador | To Require Visas for Travellers from 45 Countries

 Ecuador will require  a Visa and  the Temporary Visitor Visa for Transient for citizens of 45 countries who are currently required for a visa to enter in the South American country, a move which seeks to strengthen immigration control and state security.

The operation started on 1st September 2025 and is part of  the measures adopted in accordance with the Organic Law of National Solidarity, which reformed Article 66 of the Organic Law of Human Mobility as indicated by the Foreign Ministry of Ecuador in a statement.

The measure will be applicable to nationals of Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Camerron, Cuba, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, the the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, India, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Nepal, the Philippines, Senegal, Syria, Sri Lanka and Somalia.

In addition this requirement will also affect citizens of Albania, Chad, China,  Guinea Bissau, Haiti, Ivory Coast, Kyrgzyzstan, Mali, Mauritania, Myanmar,  Sierra Leone, Sudan, South Sudan, Uzbekistan, Tajkistan, Venezuela, Vietnam and Yemen.

Ecuador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility informed that Citizens of 45 countries that already require a visa to enter the country will also need to obtain a transit visa, even if they only make a stopover in Ecuadorian territory.

 The processing of transit visas must be carried out exclusively from outside Ecuadorian territory, through the digital platform of the Foreign Ministry and will cost $50, while the Temporary Visitor Visa for Transient will have a value of $30.

 The term Transient Temporary Visitor Visa is a short - term permit for foreigners who enter Ecuador without the intention of serttling down, but for transit or stopover.

Those interested must apply for the visa from anywhere in the world, outside Ecuadorian territory, through the official portal https://serviciosdigitales.cancilleria.gob.ec

The Foreign Ministry of Ecuador declared that the implementation of this measure seeks to strengthen State security and migration control and the Government reiterates its commitment to respect the rights of people in human mobility and to the observance of the current legal framework.
