Los Angeles, U.S. | The City Council Has Approved an Expansion and Modernization Project for the L.A. Convention Center

The Los Angeles City Council has approved an expansion and modernization project for the L.A. Convention Center (LACC) located at 1201 South Figueroa Street in the southwest section of Downtown Los Angeles, California, U.S., a leading venue for conventions, trade shows, exhibitions sporting events, concerts, meetings, and has often veen used as a filming location in TV shows and movies,  easily accessible by both car and public transportation, including the LA Metro and Metrolink regional rail.

The project aims to address the city’s competitive disadvantage in hosting large conventions due to the insufficient availability of contiguous space and involves collaboration with several partners, including AEG, Plenary Group, Webcor, PCL and Populous. The timeline for the project’s completion has not been specified.

This development is part of broader effort to position Los Angeles as a leading destination for conventions and events, particularly as other cities have completed or are undertaking similar expansions and the Los Angeles City Council voted to move forward with a $2.62 billion and modernization plan for the venue.

The expansion will connect the existing South and West Exhibit halls by adding 190.000 square feet, creating a contiguous hall with over 750.000 square feet of space and additionally the project includes 39.000 square feet of new meeting room space and 95.000 square feet of multipurpose space.

The approval signals the Californian city’s commitment to enhancing its infrastructure to support the tourism industry and local businesses, particularly in Dowtown Los Angeles. The expansion is expected to increase bookings for the convention center and attract larger – scale events.

The development is expected to generate significant economic benefits, including the creation of more than 15.000 jobs, and a $652 million increase in General Fund tax revenue over 30 years, and it is also projected to attract over $150 million in additional visitor spending annually.
