The new high-speed Baleària ferry called "Margarita Salas", named in honour of the leading biochemist in the field of science in Spain which will connect Barcelona to the Balearic Islands of Menorca and Mallorca on a daily basis throughout the year, has carried out the first navigation tests continuing towards the the last steps of development scheduled for the end of June when it will be launched.
This fast-sustainable ferry is the second in the world with a twin natural gas engine in the world and it is being developed in Asturias at the Armón shipyard in Gijón with an investment of 126 million euros.
The ferry, which will offer maximum comfort on the routes that will connect the Catalan capital to Menorca in Mallorca, will provide a capacity of 1,200 passengers and 450 seats on board for vehicles, same numbers as the Baleària Eleanor Roosevelt but with the addition of a large saloon to make the interior areas more spacious.
Other features that make it stand out are more comfortable seating in the VIP lounge and a much larger aft sundeck.
