Pordenone, a city of western Friuli Venezia Giulia region, located on the banks of the Noncello River, whose short course ends a little further on in the Meduna River, a centre encompasses a quiet historic centre in the northeast of Italy, rich in historical and artistic beauty, linked to traditions, but also looking to the future, ready to face the challenges of the present was proclaimed as Italian Capital of Culture for 2027.

The title of Italian Capital of Culture will be formally conferred by the Council of Ministers, with its own resolution, on the proposal of the Minister of Culture, which implements the recommendation of the Selection Jury that delivered the envelope to Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli.
Pordenone succeeds to Agrigento 2025 and L' Aquila 2026 and as winner city will be able to count a contribution of €1.0 million to implement the cultural program presented in the candidacy dossier proposes an innovative and inclusive model of cultural enhancement, capable of combining tradition and contemporaneity.
The strategic approach aims to strengthen the identiy of the territory through projects that interwine historical heritage, visual arts, cinema and active community participation and particularly appreciated is the ability to activate a process of widespread involvement that reinterprets the link between memory, territory and creativity.
The Minister Giuli in reading the motivation said that stands out the desire to make culture an engine of sustainable development, with an articulated program throughout the year, capable of attracting a wide and diversified audience.
The investment strategy is solid and consistent with the objectives, with a significant expected impact on the socio - economic fabric. The integration between cultural institutions, the museum system, universities and associations was also appreciated, which guarantees a solid and participatory network.
The particular attention paid to young people, not only as users but as protagonists of the creative process, confirms the dynamic and vision of the project.
The Minister of Culture added that the dossier meets the indicators of the call, acting as a model of innovative and shared cultural planning, the judgement is excellent, therefore the jury unanimously recommends Pordenone as the Italian Capital of Culture 2027.
The city was chosen for for the high quality of the proposed cultural project, for its ability to integrate different arts, for the integration between cultural institutions, and for its central role in various initiatives.
The acting mayor of Pordenone, Alberto Parigi, commented with enthusiasm on the proclamation of the city as Italian Capital of Culture 2027, having beaten the other nine finalists, stating that Pordenone is usually out of the Italian collective imagination, or if present, it is because of the presence of the barracks where many have carried out military service when it was mandatory, or because there are factories, or because the city is close to Venice.
Pordenone 's mayor observed that the commission has placed and repostioned the city in a correct way, in this magma of collective imagination, with a photograph net of distorted, stereotyped or blurred image adding that was turned spotlight on a piece of Italy, allowing us to come out of a cone of shadow and reveal our identity made up not only of industrial warehouse of which Pordenone community is also proud.

The mayor added that the project mends the dualism between cities with a cultural and entrepreneurial vocation, and allows Pordenone and its territory to become great.
