Ravenna, Italy | The Byron and Risorgimento Museums Absolute Protagonists in the International Press

Ravenna, iconic city nestled a few kilometres from the Adriatic Sea in the heart of of the beautiful Romagna, a treasure chest of art, architecture, culture, history with an ancient past linked to the glittering glory of Byzantium, the eastern Roman Empire, with its 1.500 - year - old churches decorated with best in the world West Byzantine mosaics, home to fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Monuments, including the Basilica of San Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia and the Mausoleum of Theodoric, a city that also boasts relevants museums like the Byron and Risorgimento museums currently absolute protagonists in the international press.

The two museums are preparing to experience an April of great attention and curiosity all over the world being at the centre of the visit of Ravenna of two head of states, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella and the Monarch of Great Britain, King Charles III of England accompanied by Queen Camilla on 10tth April 2025.

But the media attention for the Museums of the “Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna” chaired by Mirella Mazzotti is already very high and this is demonstrated by the extensive reportage made, first on the digital edition and then on the paper edtion, by the Kleine Zeitung, the third Austrian newspaper by circulation headquartered in Graz and Klagenfurt, founded in 1904 and owned by Styria Media Group covering the federal states of Carinthia with East Tyrol and Styria.

The title of Adolf Winkler’s reportage is “the golden splendour od Ravenna” that trace the history of the Romagna’s city starting from the Emperor Justinian and his wife Theodora during the time of the Byzantine Empire golden ages at the present day by Riccardo Muti, great conductor, and a reference point for those who love classical music.

The splenodur of Ravenna also recalls the infinite love for the city of Lord Byron, iconic British poet and peer, one of the major figure of the Romantic movement as well of the Countess Teresa alias Teresa Gamba Guiccioli, and the golden mosaics that conquered and inspired Gustav Klimt, emblematic Austrian symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement.

The reportage also highlights Italy struggles for freedom from the foreign oppressor linked to the “Risorgimento” to which the original intuition of Antonio Patuelli, President of ABI, Italian Banking Association has led the two Byron and Risorgimento Museums, connected by Byron’s events and by a profound sharing of ideals and contents.

 After being features in much of the Britsh press, from The Guardian to The Times, after finding space in the South American and Spanish media, crossing the European continent in the most prestigious media, the Byron Museum, dedicated to the British poet’s life and legacy and the Risorgimento Museum showcasing the historical period which Italy achieved its national unity.

Both museums are housed in Palazzo Guiccioli overlooking the central Via Cavour  already a daily destination of several visitors and once again in the spotlight of the international press, looking forward to the grand event on 10th April which will highligh them more and more in the International landscape.
