Cape Winelands Airport (CWA) situated along Lichtenburg Road, approximately 13 kilometres northeast of the town of Durbanville, in the Northern Suburbs, a major urban and rural region located in the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality in the Western Cape province of South Africa, is on track to become Cape Town’s second international air hub following the announcement of a R7 - 10 billion redevelopment plan.
The airport is owned by RSA. Aero, currently serves as general flying airfield, used for flight, circuit, and emergency training, as well as for private flights to and from the Cape Winelands region.
With construction expected to begin in 2026 and the first phase operational by 2028, the project includes a new terminal, hangars, runway upgrades, development of cargo facilities, sustainable aviation infrastructure and hotels.
Cape Winelands Airport is actively engaging with investors ans international airline partners, having recently presented at the South African Tourism Investment Summit at routes World 2025 in Hong Kong.
If realised, the project would mirror the success of Lanseria and Kruger - Mpumalanga Airports playing a transformative role in the region’s economic and tourism sectors.
With ambitions to ease congestion at Cape Town International and attract global traffic, the initiative aims to boost tourism, agri-business, and logistics in the Western Cape province.
