Jamonturismo – Spain | Gastronomic Tourism Promoting an Iconic Iberian Product

Jamonturismo is an activity that promotes gastronomic tourism, invented and patented in 2008 by the Julian Martin family business producer of Iberian hams and sausages from Guijuelo a segment of great importance that reveals, illustrates and makes known the processes, secrets and curiosities of the Carnian industry to the general public and gourmets for more than 15 years.

In recent years, gastronomic tourism in Spain has experienced a highly significant growth and one of the products that has aroused the most interest among visitors has undoubtedly been the iconic and distinctive "Jamon Iberico" the Iberian ham.

Jamonturismo is a gastronomic and cultural experience that seeks to promote and publicize the entire process of elaboration and maturation of these elite products that are part of the great Spanish gastronomic tradition and at the same time elevating itself to the level of Educational.

Participants can learn about the history, quality during various tastings, distinguish the various types and even know how to cut a ham correctly.

For many years, Iberian ham has been a gastronomic product highly appreciated at all latitudes for its very special flavor, its quality and a unique taste.

Spain is the main producer and exporter of this product and has in Guijuelo, a municipality in the province of Salamanca in the autonomous community of Castilla y León, the most important town in the south-east of Campo Charro and the cradle of Jamonturismo .

For some time now, the interest of more tourists has grown who come to Iberian land to learn about the production process of typical products of Spanish gastronomy and Iberian ham is certainly one of the Top.

Visitors can have the opportunity to learn how is managed the breeding of pigs in freedom in the pastures and the seasoning in natural cellars and enjoying tasting this product in its place of origin combined with wines that translates into experience.

This activity, although on the rise considerably, is very exclusive and different since very few companies in this sector are committed to full transparency and open their homes to consumers.

Julian Martin, on the contrary, wants the average citizen to enter the world of ham by inviting them to visit a ham factory in Guijuelo, transmitting first-hand the processing processes and learning how the iconic "Jamon Iberico" is produced.

The visitor can take a guided tour of the drying sheds and curing cellars, take a mini-course on ham cutting and enjoy tastings of 100% Iberian acorn-fed products and for all this the reputation of Guijuelo origin is well known.

In 2023 Julian Martin received more than 1,700 visitors and in this 2024 1,270 people have already arrived, very significant figures that consolidate an ever-growing interest in Jamonturismo and especially after two years of closure due to the pandemic.

Jamonturismo has become a unique and absolutely authentic way to get to know the culture and gastronomic heritage of Spain and the desire of the Julian Martin company through the voice of its general manager Fernando Garcia is that Jamonturismo becomes a protagonist and a gastronomic activity of reference in Spain.
