Roncà is a pleasant town located about 25 kilometers east of the magnificent Verona in the heart of the charming and picturesque Val D' Alpone, furrowed by the course of a stream of the same name, a municipality integrated into the Regional Natural Park of Lessinia on the edge of the province of Vicenza.
This center of the Veneto region surrounded by picturesque, sinuous hills in the shadow of Mount Calvarina which is the natural guardian of the town, offers a historical and cultural heritage patrimony of relevance and a further highlight is the production of a superb white wine, the Monte Lessini DOC.
Once you arrive in the municipal terms of Roncà , I recommend starting the visit from the Parish Church of Santa Maria Annunziata dating back to the 19th century, a building with a high façade with a semicircular tympanum and a beautiful wooden portal flanked by the soaring Municipal Tower characterized by its crenellated upper section used as a bell tower of the ecclesiastical complex.
You can continue with the beautiful Church of Santa Margherita erected in the14th century on the foundations of a previous religious structure that preserves important medieval architectural details.
Subsequently, entering in the locality of Terrossa you can admire the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena, a beautiful neoclassical building dating back to 1800 in which majestic columns and a large tympanum surmounted by statues of Saints with writings in Latin stand out and at the top of an elegant staircase, flanked by suggestive tall trees.
Roncà is a place known for the production in its area of excellent wines such as Farinaldo Soave, Prosecco Brut, Passito, Macete, Pinot Grigio and above all Monti Lessini DOC in White and Sparkling versions, the pride and flagship of the local wine industry, a product of great excellence for quality and versatility.
The vineyards that generate this fine wine that reached the coveted title of controlled product of origin on June 25, 1987 with publication in the Official Gazette number 6 on January 9, 1988 are cultivated on the Lessini Mountains, heights corresponding to a hilly Pre-Alpine plateau that extends between the provinces of Verona and Vicenza.
This specific geographical area is located north of the Fumano, Marano and Negrar valleys with an implementation of the vineyards that takes place at 500.0 meters above sea level and with southern exposure.
The local subsoil, purely clayey, calcareous with sedimentary rocks, has perfect properties the vines are settled using the Guyot planting system and the harvest takes place in September.
The climatic conditions are another component of extreme importance, the area enjoys mild temperatures even in the winter season with peaks that are never cold, many sunny days in the other three seasons including late autumn and breezy evenings that support the fruit in maintaining all the active components stored during ripening.
This benevolent microclimate is generated by a protective hilly wall that slows down cold windy breezes from the North and East, mitigating the territorial climatic conditions.
The Bianco DOC Monti Lessini has very specific organoleptic characteristics, created from 85% grapes of the Durello vine that can be used individually or with the addition of Chardonnay, Garganega, Trebbiano di Soave, Pinot Blanc and Noir varieties to a complementary 15%.
The minimum alcohol content is 10.0 degrees while in the Spumante type of 11.0, a wine with a pure and lively straw yellowish color, with a very pleasant, delicate, vinous and in its own way meditative aroma.
The taste is dry, full-bodied, slightly tannic, for a few seconds on the palate tending to sour.
The Spumante variety has a similar hue, presence of greenish reflections, very persistent on the palate, slightly fruity, fresh and with a sweet and very pleasant aroma.
As culinary pairings, Bianco D.O.C. is a wine of excellence accompanying seafood, molluscs, crustaceans, superb when paired with fried prawns or scampi cocktails, mussels in sauce, magnificent if served with fried or grilled vegetables.
Spumante is an absolute guarantee and perfect choice in combination with the classic Paradise Cake and numerous spoon desserts, such as Tiramisu, Trifle, Meringue and Cream Cakes.
Time for your lunch, I recommend staying in the local gastronomic traditions to start with a mixed appetizer based on Cooked Ham, Local Raw Salami and Pickled Mushrooms, first courses between Tagliolini with Cream or Risotto with Herbs.
Options among the second courses between Lamb Ribs with Roasted Potatoes or Vicenza-style Cod with a slice of toasted Polenta and excellent local wines as an accompaniment.
Visiting Roncà is undoubtedly enjoying a very pleasant day of tourism, enchanting landscapes, art, history and the great chance to discover this excellent white wine, Monte Lessini DOC.
