Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam | Experiencing an Impressive Growth in Tourism with Relevant Tourist Flows

Ho Chi Minh City, commonly known as Saigon, the most populous city in Vietnam, located in the southern territory of the country on the western bank of the Saigon River, a sprawling metropolis that is a blend of modern and old with its sleek skyscrapers, ornate temples, Chinese pagodas and classic colonial buildings linked to the former French rulers is experiencing an impressive year - on - year growth in tourism with relevant tourists flows.

Since the beginning of 2025, over 26 million tourists, both domestic and international flocked to the city, this surge demonstrates Ho Chi Minh City’s growing appeal to travellers, generating a significant contribution to the local economy, with notable increases in revenue from hospitality and related industries.

This remarkable performance of the Vietnamese city in terms of tourist flows and tourism revenue can be attributed to various factors. A key aspect is the recent expansion of the city’s administrative boundaries, this larger area encompasses more attractions, accommodation options, and activities, catering to different types of travellers, resulting in a wider, diverse, and stable tourism market with significant spending potential.

When the territories that once belonged to the provinces of Ba Ría - Vung Tau and Binh Duong were assigned to Ho Chi Minh City, almost 3.4 million domestic tourists arrived there, figures which represent a 15% more than in the same period in 2024.

A growing local population with diverse travel needs, the development of its tourism infrastructure and services, its mild climate, vibrant culture, several tourist proposals ranging from cultural and historical sites, museums, delicious cuisine to shopping opportunities, nature - based activities, nightlife and entertainment are other factors of this boom.

The city in addition is implementing targeted marketing campaigns to attract specific demographics and pronote various aspects of t5he city’s tourism offerings, such as short gateways, cultural experiences, and adventure tourism.

The Vietnamese city achieved an increase of 75.3% in July, receiving almost 696.000 international  visitors according to national media, domestic tourism in July alone confirms to be a pillar of Ho Chi Minh City tourism sector and concerning overall tourism over the seven --month period, the city generated $5.3 billion in tourist revenue, a 29.9% increase compared to the same period last year.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, the reorganization of the country’s territorial units from 63 to 34 provinces and cities under central administration has created opportunities for the development of new tourist routes.

To increase furthermore tourism flows, several companies have already readjusted their business plans since the beginning of the third quarter of 2025 with the aim of exploring new markets and offering innovative tourism products launching the “From the city along the river to the sea” program and the “Sea Culture” series.

Ho Chi Minh City currently boasts 93.000 accommodation rooms ranging from luxury hotels to homestays and eco - resorts offering several options for different type sof travellers,a varied network of shopping malls, golf courses and leisure areas, capturing the attention of numerous tourists.

The Vietnamese metropolis is projecting a strong tourism rebound in 2025, aiming to attract 8.5 million international visitors and generate VND 260.000 billion in tourism revenue. Its growth is fueled by a recovery in international travel, particularly from key markets like China and South Korea, as well as new markets like Russia, India, and the Philippines.

 Finally the city is also focusing on enhancing its tourism offerings with diversification of its products, digital integration to cater to the the modern travellers, and continuing to improve its infrastructure to solidify its position as a leading destination in Southeast Asia.
