Namibia | Established a Convention Bureau to Boost MICE Tourism Sector Growth and Support Economic Diversification

Namibia established the Namibia Convention Bureau (NCB), announced on 16th December 2025 Minister of Environment and Tourism Indileni Daniel, a strategic initiative to boost its Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector, aiming to diversify tourism, create jobs, and attract high - value business events through coordinated marketing, streamlined processes like the new MICE visa to ease entry for international delegates, and partnerships, positioning iself as a competitive global destination for business tourism. 

The new office, a deliverable of the tourism recovery and national spatial tourism master plans, will coordinate bids and destination marketing to expand the MICE sector connecting international planners with local providers and support event logistics, contributing to Namibia’s economic diversification goals and investment attraction.

The Minister of Environment and Tourism noted that Namibia hosted 36 international conferences over the past two years, including Africa Union meetings and the Global Africa Hydrogen Summit, injecting millions into the economy and supporting jobs.

The development of the NCB aligns with President Netumbo Nandi - Ndaitwah’s target to create 500.000 jobs, with benefits spanning hospitality, transport, logistic, catering, technology and small businesses.  

Namibia's President called on investors, venue owners, hotel developers and service providers to partner on conference facilities, accommodation capacity and event services, signalling Namibia’s intent to compete globally in business tourism.

•    Economic Diversification: Focuses on growing the high – value MICE sector beyond traditional leisure tourism.

•    Investment & Branding: Aims to attract investment, boost investor sentiment, and brand Namibia as a prime business hub.
•    Local Business Support: Invites local service providers to register with the NCB for opportunities and connections.
•    Strategic Alignment: Aligns with national plans like the Tourism Sector Recovery Plan and Spatial Tourism Master Plan. 

Impact

•    Already hosting major events like the Africa Union meetings and the Global Africa Hydrogen Summit. 
•    Generated millions in economic injection from business events, supporting various local sectors.
