Marriott International | Signed an Agreement to Open its First African EDITION Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa

Marriott International, American multinational hospitality company based in Bethesda, Maryland has signed an agreement with V&A Waterfront Holdings  to open its first African EDITION hotel in Cape Town, vibrant port city located on a striking peninsula overlooking the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, highlighted by a unique natural in the Floristic Region and boasting stunning landmarks include Cape Point and Table Mountain.

The R1 billion Cape Town EDITON is set to open in 2026 and is one of South Africa’s most expensive projects in decades marking the EDITION brand’s debut in the African continent. 

The property will be located in the V&A Waterfront’s Quay 7 district and forms part of the broader Granger Bay precinct, in a famed mixed - use suburb of Cape Town featuring an array of attractions and services, including a marina, a major shopping mall, upmarket residential apartments, a amphitheatre hosting year – round events, Battery Park, a world - class heliport, and extensive yacht berths with dedicated superyacht facilities, along with an array of dining and retail offerings. 

The Cape Town EDITION is designed by Neri&Hu, an inter - disciplinary architectural design practice founded in 2004 and based in Shanghai, China with local partner StudioMAS, an architecture and urban design firm headquartered in Johannesburg, offering stunning views of the iconic Table Mountain, Lions’s Head, Signal Hill and Table Bay. 

The property will feature 142 rooms and suites plus six serviced private residences. Planned amenities include destination dining, a signature rooftop bar, a spa, a pool and event facilities.    

The development joins EDITION Hotels brand, an unexpected and refreshing collection of individualized, customized, one - of - a - kind hotels that redefines the code of traditional luxury. Displaying the best of dining and entertainment, services, and amenities “all under one roof”, each EDITION property is unique, reflecting the best cultural and social milieu of its location and time.

Each hotel, with its individuality, authencity, originality, and unique ethos, reflects the current spirit and zeitgeist of its location. Although all the hotels look completely different, the brand’s unifying aesthetic is in its approach and attitude to the modern lifestyle rather than its appearance.

Marriott executives said the V&A Waterfront location aligns with the group’s growth plans and aims to set a new benchmark for luxury hospitality, while the V&A Waterfront noted rising visitor demand and direct access to nearby retail, restaurants and marine experiences, positioning the hotel as a new high - end anchor for Cape Town’s tourism economy.
