This plan aims to relaunch a scheme offering discounted bus and ferry fares focuses for international travellers arriving in the neighbor Hong Kong International Airport and heading to Macau, a move thatis part of a broader initiative aimed at attracting more international visitors with a particular focus on long - haul markets in Europe but also directed to Asiatic countries like those of the Middle East and India, although the details of the scheme have yet released.
The initiative is linked to the incoming tourism strategy planned to welcome approximately 38 to 39 million visitors this year, close to the pre - pandemic figures seen in 2019, a move supported by an improvement of air connectivity, new proposals and promotional campaigns abroad in international fairs and events in which the autonomous Chinese region participated.
From January to August 2024 MGTO partnered with Macau HK Airport Direct, a collaboration provided a formula with complimentary bus tickets for eligible travellers landing at Hong Kong International Airport and additionally Macau Tourism Office worked with TurboJET and Cotai Water Jet offering free - one way ferry tickets to attract more and more tourists.
In 2024, Macau recorded 2.423.093 international visitors, marking a 66% increase compared to the previous year and the the Macao Government office has set a target to attract 3 million international visitors in 2025.
According to information provided by MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Macau Tourism Office is expanding its efforts to draw tourists from Europe, India and the United States of America in addition tlo its core markets such as China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and key international markets in East Asia like Japan and South Korea and in Southeast Asia.
