Santa Fe de Veraguas, a township and capital of the Santa Fe district in the province of Veraguas, close to the continental divide, the isthmus which links Central America to South America, just 60.0 kilometres from the Mosquito Coast at the Caribbean Sea, connected to the Pacific coast with a paved road to the “Carretera Panamericana “ the Pan - American Highway and the town consolidates itself as a new, emergent destination promoted by ATP, the Tourism Authority of Panama.
This Panamanian centre at the mouth of the Guaiga River, which is known as Calovébra is well known throughout the country for its stunning environment highlighted by the pristine Santa Fe National Park surrounds the town in three directions, measuring 72.636 hectares where the Santa Maria River and its tributaries spring from this territory.
This paradise of biodiversity where the air quality and forest make this area a popular destination for hiking, birdwatching, horseback riding, visits to rivers and eco - tourism gained significant importance in recent years amd it is home to at least 300 bird species.
The park also boasts a rare fauna, and a stunning flora boasting 300 species of orchids and to pay homage to this diverse and widespread family of flowering plants called Orchidasae, Santa Fe de Veraguas hosts an orchid exhibition every August.
A team from the Tourism Authority of Panama, led by the General Administrator Gloria De León Zubieta, carried out a tour in Santa Fe de Veraguas to admire different attractions of the region with the aim of recognizing the main tourist offers of the local territory and during the tour, the emblematic agrotourism farms El Salto owned by the Soto family and Maria y Chon were visited, both farms registered by the ATP and the MIDA, the Ministry of Agricultural Development.
At El Salto farm visitors were able to enjoy an impressive offer of organic vegetables, as well as petroglyphs, handicrafts, enjoying culinary sample that included its delicious homemade chocolate, made with cocoa grown in the place with in addition admiring in the area scenic heights and waterfalls.
At the Maria y Chon farm, attendees were delighted by the beauty of orchids and ornamental plants, in addition to participating in a tasting tour of the local coffee and learning concerning its process.
The Panama Tourism Authority team also had the opportunity to visit the township of Calovébora, on the north coast of the province where they enjoyed one of the best beaches of Panama that serves as a gateway to the beautiful Escudo de Veraguas Island.
The ATP General Administrator after this educational, highlighted the importance of Santa Fe de Veraguas as an emerging tourist destination that offers a unique combination of nature, adventure and culture, committed to promoting the beauties of country like Santa Fe de Veraguas, a jewel that deserves to be discovered by more tourists, highlighting its spectacular waterfalls and beachesand its gastronomy, a true delight for the palate.
ATP aims to recognize the main tourist offers through tours, exploring and discovering the different attractions of the country and in this case the visit of Santa Fe de Veraguas and its surroundings is the reaffirmation of the instution’s commitment to promote tourism in the country as an engine of economic and social development, promoting the diversity of destinations that Panama has to offer.
