Ethiopia, trough its President Taye Atske Selassie has unveiled a major development plan for the 2025 – 2026 fiscal year.
This comprehensive national development agenda focuses on implementing economic reforms, increasing infrastructure investment, developing agriculture, housing and tourism as reported by the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), the official news agency of the Ethiopian government, the oldest news organisation in the country.
The plan is supported by a $3.4 billion IMF funding program, contingent on the implementations of the reforms and aims for sustained growth, projected at 8.9% to 9%.
Key initiative include :
• Liberalizing the exchange rate.
• Opening the economy to private investment.
• Constructing new housing and infrastructure.
• Establishing a new fertilizer production plant to boost food security.
The development plan also addresses initiatives to improve rural access, to clean water, efforts to to expand electricity access from 44% to 100% by 2030, transport network improvements, and major investment to strengthen road, rail, and air connectivity.
Tourism development is another key focus, with efforts to expand destinations and preserve cultural heritage.
