The Galápagos Islands, idyllic, exotic, volcanic archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, a province of Ecuador, which lies about 1.000 kilometres off of its coast, considered one of the world's foremost destinations for wildlife - viewing with a unique diversity of animal nad plant species many of them found nowhere else, land that inspired for his theory of evolution, the famed, English geolostist and naturalist Charles Darwin who visited the islands in 1835 has won the Gold Award in the category "Region most desirable for visiting and tourism" at the 23rd edition of the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards.
The event which brought together hundreds of prominent leaders of the travel and tourism industry in London, for the delivery of awards sponsored by Wanderlust, famed, original, travel magazine for the passionate, serious travellers, taking the road lless travelled, since 1993 came with several awards for Ecuador within the framework of the recognition in 22 categories for destinations, tour operators, and travel brands.
More than 168.000 subscribers from around the
world voted, who defined which are their favourite countries, cities and
regions on a global scale and the Galapagos archipelago won the Gold award winning against other relevant candidates.
Wanderlust publication higlighted that Galapagos Islands boast a wide varied of endemic species, volcanoes on the island Isabela and vast white sands of Española.
Ecuador also received the Bronze Award in the category of "Most desirable destination for wildlife and nature"a title, which confirms the country's tourism potential to attract visitors from around the world also in this special category.
The Minister of Tourism of Ecuador Mateo Estrella said all that represents excellent news for Ecuador ,positioning the country as a favourite destination for travellers from around the world, recognizing the uniqueness and beauty of Ecuadorian paradise.
The Minister received the awards during WTM, World Travel Market London fai held with delegations from 184 countries including Ecuador, which prticipate with 21 tourism service companies that held approximately 900 business meetings.
