Vietnam is actively working to meet its target of having at a t least 3.000 kilometres of highways by the end of 2025, with thr government pushing for rapid completion of key national projects, including segments of the of the North - South expressway, ring roads for Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and other major routes are being fast - tracked to boost economic connectivity, with significant progress expected through major construction efforts.

Linked to that a dedicated 500 - day emulation campaign was launched to accelerate progress, involving  24/7 work qand strong government oversight.

The country is also on track to reach the goal for 2030 that is even more ambitious, targeting 5.000 km by 2030, according to the Ministry of Construction. Since 2021 alone, the length of highways built is equivalent to the total of the previous decade, with a special highlight to the North - Southern Highway, already in full operation with its 23 projects.

During the seminar “Promotion from 3.000 km highways”, experts agreed that the pace of construction has been historic, improving regional connectivity, reducing travel times and strengthening economic competitiveness. The progress has been possible thanks to the parallel implementation of projects, special mechanism for land and quarries, and the application of science and technology in the management of works.

According to Vietnam News Agency (VNA), contractors and consultants pointed to the challenges faced:

•    Difficult terrain.
•    Material shortages.
•    Tight deadlines and lack of skilled labour, which has demanded innovation.
•    Flexibility and greater organizational capacity.

The coming years are expected to see even greater activity, with more than 240 projects scheduled in December this year alone, worth US$83.500 million, reinforcing the need for worker training and efficient supply materials to maintain the pace of growth.

This expansion is seen as a revolution in Vietnam’s infrastructure, aiming for a truly interconnected national network to support economic development.

In essence, Vietnam is in a major infrastructure drive, and achieving the 3.000 km expressway milestone by the end of 2025 is a central part of the strategy to modernize its transport network and foster growth in the country, establishing itself as a leader in conectivity in the region.
