DAY 1 - YOUR COUNTRY - REGGIO CALABRIA
Arrival to Reggio Calabria Airport and after your rent a cart arrangements,have a first contact of this beautiful city located on the strait facing Sicily enjoying one of the best seaside promenades of the Mediterranean,accommodation in hotel and overnight in Reggio Calabria.
Day 2 / REGGIO CALABRIA - BAGNARA CALABRA - SCILLA - REGGIO CALABRIA
After your breakfast visit of Reggio Calabria, one of the most important city of this beautiful Italian Southern Regions called Calabria.Visit the Cathedral and the archaeological museum which houses the famous Bronze Statues.Time for a walk on the most "beautiful kilometre in Italy" as it was defined by writer Gabriele D'Annunzio."Riggiu"as Calabrian people calls Reggio Calabria is a captivating city,with beautiful beaches,charming buildings dated 17th and 18th century."Piazza Italia"is one of the most charming squares in the South of Italy,The Cathedral is a wonderful architectonic masterpiece,built in an eclectic -liberty with magnificent Baroque,Gothic and Romanesque elements and details. Take a look to the "Chiesa degli Ottimati"a church with Oriental domes,a great example of Byzantine-Normand style.
Continue to Bagnara Calabra,facing Messina strait with beautiful views of Sicily and famous village for the "Spadara" typical fishing of swordfish and lunch in a typical restaurant tasting the delicious "Pesce Spada alla griglia"(grilled swordfish).Worth a visit the charming "Rione Marinella"a picturesque fishing district dominated by an Aragonese tower and the "Palazzo Ducale dei Ruffo"well known as "Castello Emmarita"located on a rock promontory with magnificent views on Calabrian and Sicilian coasts.
Later visit Scilla,a beautiful town of ancient origins and shrouded in myth of Ulysses.It is also the place inhabited the mythological sea beast Scylla.This small town of 6,000 inhabitants was cited by Homer and Alessandro Manzoni.It sits on a headland dominated by the castle of the Ruffo family you visit previously in Bagnara Calabra.The town is divided into two parts on the one hand the fishing district said "Chianalea"the city of fishermen, also known as the "Little Venice of South Italy"and the other the "Marina Grande" with the waterfront,,packed of restaurants and hotels and a vibrant nightlife..Dinner and overnight in Reggio.
DAY 3 / REGGIO CALABRIA -CATANZARO -TIRIROLO - CATANZARO
After your breakfast departure for Catanzaro to discover the lively and animated capital of the region, whose old town full of narrow streets,ancient palaces and squares still has a medieval urban layout.Continue to visit the monumental complex of "St. Giovanni" adjacent to the medieval castle of Guiscard dated 1024.Do not miss to admire the splendid theatre designed by Politeama,one of the greatest exponents of Italian architecture very active in Calabria and Sicily.Through a small driveway you can enjoy the view of "Villa Trieste" located in a public park created in 1878 between flower beds and trees where there is also scheduled to visit the Archaeological Museum established in 1879.Inside the museum there is a core group of Greek and Roman coins and various archaeological finds.Enjoy your lunch tasting "Spaghetti con N´Duja"pasta with tomato,"Peperoncino Calabro"(Calabrian chilli) and N´Duja (typical Calabrian spicy sausage).In the early afternoon departure for the visit of the Archaeological Park of Scolacium.
Continue to Tiriolo a little charming village with splendid and unforgottable views of the Ionian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea.In Tirirolo visit the Antiquarium Civic holds precious antiques belonging to the civilisation and the wonderful clothes "Bruzia" traditional Calabrian among them that of "Pacchiana". Day 4 / CATANZARO-STILO -GERACE
After your Breakfast departure for Stilo.Birthplace of the philosopher Tommaso Campanella.In Stilo,visit the famous "Cattolica" the oldest Byzantine church dating from the 9th century one of the best example of Byzantine art in the Southern Italy.Stilo was an important Greek colony called "Kaulon"destroyed by Dionisius of Siracusa during the internal wars of the ancient "Magnae Hellas" the Magna Greece.Take a look to the rests of the Normand Castle of Roger II located on the "Monte Consolino"a picturesque mountain surrounded by olive trees and woods.
Continue to Gerace.The town an ancient Greek settlement called "Lerax" is considered one of the most interesting medieval town with its narrow streets, the palaces and craft shops of its historical centre.Enjoy your lunch in Gerace and try the famous "Bergamotto di Gerace".Bergamot orange is a fragrant fruit the size of an orange,with a yellow colour similar to a lemon.Of particular interest the Normand Cathedral a beautiful example of Normand architecture and the largest in South Italy in this kind of construction,also very interesting the church of S. Day 5 / GERACE - ROSSANO CALABRO - ALTOMONTE
After your breakfast departure to Rossano Calabro.This charming town located on the top of a hill in the middle of Sila mountains has been an important Greek,Roman and Byzantine colony.Worth a visit the famous Diocesan Museum which houses the famous "Codex Rossanensis Purple" which is an original part of the Gospel of Matthew and Mark and the beautiful Cathedral Achiropita dated 11th century.Continue visiting the factory of "Amarelli"famous licorice since the 16th century and the only museum in the world about licorice.You can enjoy your lunch in Rossano,with a typical "Baccalá alla Cosentina"(Cod in tomato sauce with pepperoni and potatoes) and taste a fantastic local wine "Ciró Bianco".
In the afternoon departure to Altomonte.Visit this splendid medieval village, full of craft shops,situated on a rock promontory,it is part of the club of "The most beautiful villages in Italy".Worth a visit the beautiful Church of St. Our Lady of Consolation, a fine example of Gothic-Angevin architecture,The area are plenty of olive groves and vineyards producing native fine wines "Balbini", many praised by Pliny the Elder.Overnight in Altomonte.
Day 6 / ALTOMONTE - LE CASTELLA -CAPO COLONNA -CROTONE- SANTA SEVERINA
After your breakfast,departure to Capo Rizzuto and visit the district of this town called "Le Castella",it is really beautiful with the Aragonese Castle, which stands on a of small island connected to the mainland by a thin isthmus.Le Castella is located on the Ionian coast of Calabria, 10 km from Isola di Capo Rizzuto and overlooking the bay with the old Aragonese castle.In 1536, the famous Berber corsair Khayr al-Din Barbarossa kidnapped Giovanni Dionigi Galeni, who became famous as an admiral and privateer by the name of Ali Paşa Uluc.This place was chosen as a film set for "L'Armata Brancaleone" and "The Gospel according to Matthew."Near the Aragonese castle where you can enjoy some excursions visiting the protected marine area of Capo Rizzuto.
Proceed to Capo Colonna and visit the beautiful ruins of the Temple dedicated to Hera Lacinia.Once its name was Lacinion or also "Cape Lacinium."and it is the promontory which determines the western Gulf of Taranto, where there was a temple dedicated to Hera Lacinia.It is also the famous place about the treaties between Rome and Carthage and considered as insuperable limit of Roman ships during the Punic wars.
Continue to Crotone,this town was an ancient important Greek colony and was one of the most important centers of Magna Graecia.A legend has it that the name derives from Crotone "Kroton", son of Aeacus, who was killed accidentally by his friend Heracles.These, to correct the mistake made and to honor the friend who had hosted him buried with solemn ceremony on the banks of the river near the tomb Esaro and then gave rise to the city to which he gave his name.The old town is developed in a maze of narrow alleys and squares up to the cathedral and the central square Pythagoras, the contact point between old and new town.

Continuation to Santa Severina, visit the beautiful town perched on a mountain of stone and is known as "The Stone Ship".The austere and imposing castle overlooking the town. The village, due to its location and its fortress became the centre of all power struggles that shook the area: first, Aragon and Anjou, and then move the hands of large landowners: Carafa, Ruffo, Grutter.Overnight in Santa Severina.
Day 7 / PARCO NAZIONALE DEL POLLINO -CIVITA - FRASCINETO -REGGIO CALABRIA
After your breakfast departure for the Pollino National Park,where you can admire marvellous natural landscapes of mountains and hills.Continuation to the old town of Civita visiting the Byzantine Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the Ethnographic Museum. Continue to Frascineto and visit the Museum of icons and Byzantine tradition. Enjoy your lunch in the Area of Pollino with typical calabrian foods,as pecorino cheese of Pollino,a big variety of sausages,"satizzu","pizzenti" and "suppizzada",all the Calabrian sausages are really very spicy and a suggest is always eat them with bread. In the afternoon round and visit the museum which houses the fossil remains of large elephants and hippos lived 500000 years ago.Take your way to Reggio Calabria in the afternoon and overnight in Reggio Calabria.
Day 8 / REGGIO CALABRIA - YOUR COUNTRY
