Entre Aldeias | New Historic Walking Route | Algarve | Portugal

The beautiful region of southern Portugal Algarve has a new historic walking route on the initiative of the Almargem Association supported by the municipality of Albufeira, a route called PR5 ABF Entre Aldeias.

The words Entre Aldeias in Portuguese means Between Villages because the route crosses the three municipalities that participate in the Algarvensis Geopark project and development, a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The route has a length of about seven kilometers totally immersed in the beautiful nature of the region crossed by various fertile floodplains among trees, olive trees, shrubs and plants typical of the region.

This itinerary follows a historical path where the bending of the Algibre corresponds to a thrust, a fault along which the oldest limestones relating to the Lower Jurassic period, therefore between 201 and 174 million years ago, overlap with the early limestones of the Upper Jurassic period dating back to 163/145 million years ago.

On one of the slopes of the route you will also be able to see the floods of the Alte and Algibre streams that flow in that area and towards higher topographic positions you can also see the hydraulic limestone formations of Peral and Loule'.

During this very educational itinerary you will be able to see all the rocks and their formation that were created by sediments deposited at different depths on the bottom of the Tedide sea which later gave rise to the Atlantic Ocean.

The municipality of Albufeira thus wants to diversify its tourism and also becoming a destination for trekking, hiking and nature tourism enthusiasts in a very attractive territory and Entre Aldeias is opening its doors for this fascinating historic walking route.
