The municipality of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has developed and implemented the Intelligent Integrated Management System of Ciudad de Mar, it is an innovative and pioneering technological solution in Spain, available to public managers, researchers, citizens and visitors.
This powerful tool for the acquisition, transmission, processing of data on the beaches of La Laja, Las Alcaravenaras, Las Canteras allows a high-resolution temporal and spatial monitoring of the sandy areas.
It is a system for monitoring the environmental status of the city's coastline through the implementation of a network of sensors and videometry stations, which allows the data acquired to be viewed and applied in an anonymous and high-resolution form in an interactive and dynamic way.
Linked to all that, six videometric stations have been built with a height of 10.0 meters that carry up to three cameras with photovoltaic power, designed with protection elements to withstand the conditions of high exposure and corrosion of the marine environment.
Four of those stations will be located on Las Canteras beach, one on La Laja beach and another on Las Alcaveranas.
The Councillor of Ciudad de Mar announced that this is a coordination work developed within the City Council that has begun to provide solutions to the needs of Ciudad de Mar, becoming an innovative and unique system in Spain that positions the city as a pioneer and at the forefront of technology within Smart Cities.
The system's software uses calibrated and advanced algorithms that can analyze all the images collected by the cameras that allow to make specific occupancy calculations and predict or carry out warnings of dangerous currents, useful information for security and emergency services.
The complete and intelligent beach management system also has an APP denominated LPA Beach in Spanish and English available for free download on iOS and Android that allows real-time access to information on real weather conditions and sea conditions.
This APP shows data corresponding to the most recent images of each sector of the beaches, including the tides, the areas at risk for swimmers, the state of sea currents, in addition to the available surface of sand depending on the high or low tide.
Other functions are the weather forecast for the current day and the forecast of occupancy of bathers in each sector of the beaches for a subsequent period of two hours.
LPA Beach informs the user of the mobility options available to reach each beach in a sustainable way from where it is located as well as where they are located and what are the opening hours of public services, safety, emergencies and tourist information points and the accessible area for assisted bathing.
