Rome - European City Leader for Tourist Growth

The Councilor for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion of Rome Alessandro Onorato enthusiastically commented on the extraordinary result of tourism growth of the “eternal city”  with an increase of 45.2% compared to 2023 according to the result of the twentieth edition of the City Travel Report.

This result elevates the Italian capital on the top in Europe, after a report carried out by City Destinations Alliance, the most important DMO association at the European level, which ranked Rome as leader surpassing cities of great importance such as London and Vienna, which found significantly lower percentages with a growth of 32.1 and 30% respectively.

The councillor then added that these data represent the confirmation of how Rome has become the most sought-after European tourist destination and that none of the 117 cities analyzed boast figures of this level.

Mayor Gualtieri expressed himself with enthusiasm, commenting that this primate at the continental level is the result of the development of winning strategies through the promotion of major events that are undoubtedly an engine of great growth, transforming Rome into a dynamic and open destination where there is something attractive to do and admire every day.

Councillor Onorato then added that in 2023 Rome reached with 50 million visitors a record in that will be broken in 2024 given that in the first half of the current year presences in Rome increased by 4.89% and arrivals had an increase of 6.5% with an average stay of visitors in the Italian capital that from a historic figure of 2/3 overnights has increased to stabilize at 4.
