Albareto | Charming Landscapes of the Parma Apennines

 

Albareto is a municipality in the province of Parma located in the heart of the Emilian Apennines on the borders of three regions, namely Emilia Romagna, Tuscany and Liguria in the picturesque Val di Taro, part of the Mountain Community of the Taro and Ceno Valleys, an area that offers unique, charming landscapes.

This municipality, made up of various hamlets, developed on a gentle hillside at an altitude of 512.0 meters is nicknamed "the village of mushrooms" for the huge quantity present in this verdant and fertile territory between mountains and woods, finding the ideal natural habit in a fairytale landscape setting.

Linked to that every year Albareto hosts the National Porcini Mushroom Fair twinned with the iconic Piedmontese Alba Truffle Fair.

This locality is surroundedby streams and streams that flow alongside suggestive paths adored by many trekking fans and lovers of the uncontaminated air of this oasis of serenityis only 15 minutes drive from the beautiful ski slopes of Zum Neri.

Walking along the central Via Repubblica you can see the War Memorial, the beautiful Palazzo della Comunalia until reaching the Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta with ochre and white shades dating back to 1475 but with baroque lines due to subsequent reforms.

The building has an attractive gabled façade covered with square-shaped stone blocks divided into four pilasters surmounted by a tympanum whose chain is interrupted in correspondence with the central section characterized by a refined portal and a window.

The interior in purely neoclassical style is divided into two bays with cross vaults and is in neoclassical style with side chapels and a short transept that have barrel vaults as well as the presbytery closed by the semicircular apse and a beautiful carved wooden altar of the 1800s.

Of great importance is a sixteenth-century wooden ciborium featuring a depiction of St. Benedict and a fine 17th-century tabernacle.

The view of Monte Gottero will be beautiful which, with its 1640.0 meters, dominates the entire Albareto and the picturesque Val Gotra, full of beech and chestnut woods in the heart of the verdant Ghirardi Regional Nature Reserve, undoubtedly are other highlights and favorite place for passionate photographers and many trekking lovers.

The delicious Porcino Mushroom is an emblematic symbol of Albareto, a sort of edible treasure highly sought after from August to November by a multitude of passionate mushroom hunters who pour into every corner of its municipal boundaries to then be able to taste this delicacy that boasts the I.G.P. mark awarded by the European Community to classify the Protected Geographical Indication.

This product grows in the Val di Taro around Monte Penna but also in Tornolo, Baselica, Bedonia, Berceto, Compiano, Borgo Val di Taro and Albareto in coppice woods with tall trees. 

Well known for their large cap that can exceed 25.0 centimeters, very fleshy with a shade that can vary from reddish-brown, light chestnut and hazelnut with tubules and long pores initially white then changing into yellowish shades and in some cases with a color terrix to olive green. 

The local Porcini has a slender but at the same time massive stem, showing off an intense brown color and crowned by a whitish network with yellowish hues, firm flesh, aromatic flavor, and an unmistakably pleasant aroma.

A visit to Albareto is highly recommended for all those who love nature, an uninterrupted atmosphere, gastronomy, the proximity of Tuscany and Liguria are another incentive to visit this place that offers unique landscapes to remember forever.
