The Maldives Islands, a state and idyllic archipelago in South Asia located in the Indian Ocean southwest of India and Sri Lanka, has already recorded more than 100.000 tourist arrivals in August 2024.
These concrete data highlighting a concrete number of 109.415 visitors arrived at Velana VIA Airport between the 1st and 17th of August represent an increase of 14.9% compared to 2023 and all this strengthens and consolidates the Maldives Islands as a destination of relevance in the world.
This growth proves to be very significant when comparing today's figures with the 81.625 arrivals that were recorded in the same period two years ago.
Another relevant figure concerns the average number of visitors arriving in the Maldives every day in August 2024, which is 6.436 with an average stay of 8 days.
The Maldives are steadily demonstrating their attractiveness and resilience and the increase in August certifies the Asian country's continued efforts to attract more and more tourists.
A further figure that emerges is that since the beginning of the year the Asian country has welcomed 1.292.472 tourists from 01st January to 17th August which means an increase of 10.4% compared to 2023.
The most important markets in terms of incoming with data recorded up to August 17 are China which contributes with 14.3% of total arrivals and 184.632 tourists, followed by Russia with 10.8% and a total of visitors of 139.308 then Great Britain with 112.656 arrivals and a contribution in percentage of 8.7% followed by Italy 7.4%, Germany 7.1% and India 6%.
The Maldives' goals and ambitions are to reach two million visitors by the end of the year, surpassing the year 2023 which saw an influx of 1.8% of incoming tourists.
These figures illustrate how tourism continues to thrive and succeed generated by significant strategic efforts to diversify and explore new markets.
