The iconic Treetops Hotel reopens its doors, historic accommodation located at 1966 meter of altitude in the fascinating Aberdare National Park, 16 kilometers from the town of Nyeri in Kenya.
This prestigious hotel developed on a slope of the Aberdare mountain range with breathtaking views of Mount Kenya was first opened in November 1932 by Eric Sherbrooke Walker, originally built in the treetops of Aberdare National Park to offer guests close-up views of the local wildlife, hence the name of the accommodation.
From that modest two-room house, a 35-room hotel was developed, began to accommodate wealthy clients fond about Africa experiences and safari lovers.
The hotel was set on fire and destroyed by the KLFA, the Kenya Land and Freedom Army group during the Mau Mau uprising of 1954, two years after hosting the future Queen Elizabeth II who received the news of her royal nomination in this hotel.
This reopening after yet another closure in recent times with the decline due to the pandemic is very significant to bring back to life once again a distinctive symbol of Kenyan hospitality.
