Argentina | National Trail Network Development for a Boost to Hiking and Trekking

 

Argentina, second – largest country in South America after Brazil and the fourth - largest in the Americas in a virtual meeting organized by the Undersecretary of Tourism of the Nation that brought together representatives of 14 provinces of the Republic gave a new boost to hiking and trekking activities as part of its strategy to consolidate nature tourism in the country with a firm action aimed to develop the national trail network.

This first federal meeting marks the beginning of an ambitious project of the South American country with the aim of making the tourist offer visible by creating a network of trails that follows common criteria and is approved with international standards.

This national trail network will offer short, medium and long-distance routes,contributing to the development of sustainable and accessible tourism throughout the country.

During the meeting, the participants shared current data regarding nature tourism and examined and reanalyzed previous actions for the development of the trails.

Conceptual and practical aspects such as guidelines for signage and effective road construction were also presented.

The provincial leaders of La Rioja, Misiones, Neuquén, Tierra del Fuego and Tucumán shared their local experiences, detailing the progress in the creation and maintenance of the trails and also shared regulations and initiatives between the different jurisdictions promoting interprovincial articulation.

The Undersecretary of Tourism has made available to the provinces the technical material and will provide continuous assistance to advance the consolidation of this project which has as its primary objective to position Argentina as a key destination for hiking, trekking, adventure and nature tourism globally.

This meeting between governmental bodies and the Argentinian provinces undoubtedly marks a fundamental step for the development of a trail network that will benefit not only tourists but also local communities elevating in addition environmental protection as a priority.
