Czech Airlines Says Goodbye to the Skies After More Than a Century of History

Czech Airlines, flag carrier of the Czech Republic member of the Alliance SkyTeam founded in 1923, the fifth oldest airline in the world after the Dutch KLM, Colombian Avianca, Australian Qantas and Soviet/Russian Aeroflot with its head office situated in the Vokovice area of Prague's 6th district and its main hub at Václav Havel Airport Prague has announced that its operations will end permanently on 28th October 2024.

This date marks the end of the long history of Czech Airlines that in recent years has faced numerous challenges, including the consequences of the September 11 attacks, the growth of low-cost airlines that have occupied airspaces and routes at very competitive prices and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The airline's services will be taken over by another Czech company, Smartwings a.s, the biggest airline of the country founded in 1997 originally created under the name Travel Service with branches in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary which operates scheduled and chartered flights mainly to leisure destinations frequently chartering aircraft from other companies.

Smartwings s.a. will incorporate the current fleet of Czech Airlines which currently has only two Airbus – A-320 – 200.

The last Czech Airlines flight that will arrive on 28th October 2024 from Paris is an epilogue that marks the end of an activity in the skies of Europe and the World after more than a century of history.
