Matanzas - Cuba | New Projects to Revitalize the City's Tourism Potential

 

Matanzas, city and capital of the province of the same name located on the northern coast of Cuba facing an ample bay, 90 kilometres east of the capital of the country Havana and 32 kilometres west of the famed resort town of Varadero surrounded by three rivers such as Yumurí, San Juan and Canimar, above which a series of bridges have been built from which this centre is also known as "the city of the bridges", centre also very famous for its notable culture with prominent poets, writers and for its Afro - Cuban folklore is focusing on the implementation of new projects as part of a strategy aimed in the revaluation of urban tourism.

The main objective is to revitalize the tourism potential in order to exploit the attractiveness of the city and the website of Radio 26 Matanzas Cuba has informed that the city plans to carry out projects focused on urban tourism and nature on a small scale next year in order to open spaces and offers for the people designed for both residents and visitors.

Some of the works concern the recovery of important pedestrians crossings such as Calle del Medio, Narváez, the historic centre in the Versalles neighbourhood, stand out among the actions to be carried out in line with the declaration of the city of Matanzas to reaffirm itself as a tourist destination of relevance.

The local media inform that the construction works related to heritage and culture are strengthened with landmark tourist house projects that will offer visitors an authentic experience in the historic center of Matanzas.

The projects also include the offer of tours through the Yumurí Valley using the existing railway infrastructure and developing navigability in the Yumurí and San Juan rivers by creating new tourist routes as new attractive options to highlight the charm and natural beauty of the region that will turn into new attractions for the city of Matanzas.

 Radio 26 website also points out that the recovery of the IMAGEN program linked to the restyling of the main avenues of the tourist corridor, covering the landscape from the iconic Bacunayagua bridge, the highest and logest bridge across Cuba built in 1958, 110 metre over a canyon near the river Yumurí marking the border between the provinces of Mayabeque and Matanzas to the community of Boca de Camarioca where a suggestive, small, fishing village at the mouth of Camarioca River with a pleasant beach is located, all works that will allow a more advantageous involvement between nature and urban tourism.
