Vila Galé Hotéis, well known hospitality company founded in 1986 and based in Lisbon, the second largest group in Portugal, has presented a new hotel project that will be developed in Golegã a Quinta da Cardiga, a village belonging to the district of Santarém, located in the Centro Region where the future Vila Galé Collection Tejo – Country Resort Hotel Convention will be born, Spa & Ecuestrian Sports replacing an old, abandoned palace with a huge land given in 1169 by Afonso I, King of Portugal to the Templars for land clearing and cultivation.
Following the signing of a concession contract which is renewable for 50 years, Quinta da Cardiga will move forward with aq period of works with an investment of €20 million.
For the President of Vila Galé, Jorge Rebelo de Almeida, if the approval and license are favorable in march 2025, the expectation is that the first phase of the project will open to the public in june 2026.
The intervention is planned in the entire area of the palace and in the areas of the mill and the granary, consisting of 22 rooms, two restaurants, two bars, a library and several meeting rooms.
In the first phase, up to 49 new rooms will be added, as well as Spa, two riding schools – one indoor and one outoor, with thr remodelling of the existing stables in the building, an outdoor swimming pool and sports areas, as well as two paddle tennis courts, a fooball pitch and a multi – sports court.
The huge meeting room, with a capacity of 800 people, will be left for a second phase along with the addition of 45 new rooms in the northern area of Quinta da Cardiga.
The President of Vila Galé said that a product like this will be found in all markets, since some markets are good for attracting people who come out of season such as the North American or the Brazilian markets.
