Honduras | Remarkable Tourism Growth with Record of Arrivals

 

Honduras, Central American country with Pacific Ocean coastlines to the south and the Caribbean Sea to the north, land highlighted by prisitine beaches, relevant diving sites, vast tropical rainforests in the proximity of Guatemala boasting a rich cultural and historic heritage linked to the Mayan civilization experienced a remarkable tourism growth with record od arrivals in 2024.

The National Institute of Migration has confirmed the data that in 2024, 741.161 tourist travelled to Honduras, that is, 2.6% more compared to the data for 2023, the international visitors were 42% from the United States of America followed by Salvadorans and Guatemalans while the remaining 23% were visitors from Canada, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Mexico,  Nicaragua, Spain, the United Kingdom and other countries.

As additional note was reported that the international visitors entered Honduras, above all all, through the airports of San Pedro Sula, city situated in the Sula Valley in the northern territory of the country, Palmerola, international Airport located 6.0 kilometres south of Comayagua city centre and Roatan, famed island in the Caribbean about 65 kilometres off the northern coast of Honduras.

It should be noted that the record of arrivals in 2024 has far exceeded the two previous years, such as that of 2022 with 732.306 visitors and that of 2023 which marked 722.563 tourists, resulting the year prior to the Covid – 19 pandemic, 2019 when 665.539 international tourists were counted.

This relevant increase in the number of visitors has undoubtedly has a very positive impact on the local economies of traditional tourist destinations in the country such as La Ceiba, Roatán, Tela, Trujillo and Copin among others.
