Meliá Hotels International, Spanish hotel chain founded in 1956 and headquartered in Palma de Mallorca, one of Spain's largest domestic operators of holiday resorts in collaboration with Hoti Hotéis Group, Portuguese firm established in 1979 dedicated to providing hotel services in the form of ownership, operation, managing or franchising based in Lisbon will open around the time of the São João festivities on 24th June 2025 the Meliá São João da Madeira in Portugal.
The four-star unit is located in São João da Madeira in northwestern region of the Portuguese Norte region, part of the larger Porto Metropolitan Area, 30 kilometres from the second largest centre of Portugal and it will feature about one hundred rooms and it will be the 21st hotel part of Hoti Hotéis Group, which boasts in its portfolio 20 establishments in Portgual and one in Mozambique.
The hotel is the result of the refurbishment of the Conde Dias Garcia Palace a 19th century mansion, which was one of the properties included in Revive, a program launched by the Portuguese Government to promote the recovery of public goods.
Next to this operation the Hoti Hotéis Group also plans to build four more hotels such as the Meliá Viana do Castelo in northern Portugal which will provide 130 rooms, the INNSiDe by Meliá Porto Centro, a complex which will be developed on Avenida Boavista, in Porto, which will have a hotel and Meliá residences and a hotel in Luanda, Angola.
