Venice, the iconic and magnificent capital of northern Italy's Veneto region, built in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea, consisting in an archipelago of 118 small islands connected by over 400 bridges and a complex network canals, founded in the 5th century AD, famous for its stunning gothic and renaissance architecture with protagonists astonishing landmarks such as St. Mark Basilica, the Doge's Palace, the Cà D' Oro Palace, the Bridge of Rialto, the Bridge of Sigh next to the Grand Canal and highlighted by emblematic gondola rides, a magical place with tons of things to see will increase entrance fee for visitors without an accommodation reservation in the city from €5.0 in 2024 to €10.0, applying on almost twice as many dates as last year.
Once an entrance fee was implemented, considered a pioneer worldwide for daytime visitors in 2024, Venice has doubled the pricing scheme for the season, with up to 54 dates designated for the tax, compared to the 29 in force in 2024.
These dates begin with a continuous block that anarchates from 18th April to 4th May and then continue every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in May until the end of July.
This fee will be applied to visitors without a reservation to spend the night in the city, between 8.30 a,m. and 4.00 p.m. and the fee of €10.0 will be halved for those who book four or more days in advance.
A statistical data was reported indicating that a total of 485.062 visitors paid the entrance fee in 2024, meaning a collection of €2.4 million.
Venice's Councillor for tourism, Simone Venturini said that the goal remains, the same, to create a new system to manage the tourist flows and discourage one - day tourism in several periods, in line with the delicate and unique nature of the city, to enure the respect it deserves.
As additional note concerning incoming tourism in the Capital of Veneto tourists arriving in Venice in 2024 did so from 194 countries around the world and after the Italians, the visitors from U.S were the second largest group in terms of arrivals followed by German and French tourists.
