The Dominican Republic | Achieved Important Closure of Negotiations in the South American Tourism Market

The Dominican Republic, country located on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles of the Caribbean Sea in the North Atlantic Ocean, well known for its rich cultural and historical heritage, great colonial architecture, stunning beaches, luxury resorts and golfing boasting varied landscapes with rainforests, highlands, rivers and savannah achieved important closure of negotiations in the South American tourism market at the ANATO 2025, relevant Tourism and Travel Fair which took place in Bogotá, Colombia enhancing its inbound tourism with more arrivals from Colombia and all over Latin America.

During this important Tourism Trade Fair, the delegation of the Dominican Republic, headed by Minister David Collado, carried out an intense work agenda, which included 25 negotiation meetings with airlines, tour operators, travel agencies, marketing companies, international media, among others with the aim of strengthening the flow of tourists to the country.

Thanks to these meetings, the Ministry of Tourism continues to work hard towards the goal of exceeding the visit of more than 375.000 Colombian tourists by the end of this year and from other South American countries and it will guarantee the mobilization of more than 30% of the total number of passengers entering the Dominican Republic, a direct result of this management with cooperation agreements.

Strenghtening and diversifying air connectivity The Dominican Republic strengthened its ties to guarantee air connectivity and greater visits by South American tourists with main airlines that cover the Colombia - Dominican Republic routes ensured by agreements with Avianca, Copa Airlines and Wingo Airlines. 

With the signing of these agreements, the aim is not only to increase the arrival of travellers but also to diversify the offer, facilitating access to different tourist spots in the country.

Incoming Tourism -  Diversifying Destinations Offering - ANATO 2025 Fair also served as a crucial platform to strengthen the relationship between the Dominican Republic and the Colombian market which has become the third largest source of tourists to the destination and apart the most famous and traditional destinations were highlighted others to diversify the offering.

 Miches emergent destination was presented, a town located in El Seibo province in the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic, boasting over 48.0 kilometres of pristine beaches, the country's largest waterfall, as well as a loyal population of leatherback sea turtles and humpback whales vacationing year after year to lay eggs and raise their young offering in this case sea, opportunities to admire natural wonders and living authentic experiences.

Miches is experiencing a notable development and by the end of 2025 will boast more than 3.000 rooms operating becoming a relevant tourist hub offering comfortable hotels and resorts in an idyllic landscape.

In addition was introduced Santo Domingo, the capital of the country, highlighting its wide range of hotels, gastronomy, cultural and historical heritage, a city which offers a rich agenda of cultural events, entertainment, a versatile destination very suitable for several segments and niches.

 Consolidation of collaboration with OTA Platforms in Latin America - Within the framework of ANATO 2025, the Dominican Republic as destination strengthened furthermore its relevant relationship with OTA Despegar, the most important online travel agency in Latin America that mobilizes half a million passengers to the Caribbean country, and the OTA recognized the country as the destination with the highest passenger growth in 2024.

From Colombia, the Dominican Republic received 3,633 flights, the 32% were operated on the El Dorado, Bogotá - Punta Cana route, 27% on the El Dorad Bogotá - SDQ route and 16% on the Medellin - Punta Cana route.

With the participation in the ANATO 2025 Showcase Fair, the Dominican Republic reaffirms its position as the preferred destination in the Caribbean for Colombians and of other countries of South America for this year and beyond.
