The Social Hub | European Expansion with the Opening of its First Venue in Porto, Portugal

 The Social Hub, hybrid hotel chain and co - working space founded in 2006 by the Scottish entrepreneur Charlie MacGregor and headquartred in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, managed its European expansion with the opening of its first venue im Porto, the second largest city in Portugal after Lisbon.

This opening represents a very strategic move by The Social Hub placing one of its new units in a very trendy, tourist destination like Porto a vibrant centre well known for its historical and cultural heritage, highlighted by several landmarks among them stunning medieval Ribera district, its historical core declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, suggestive stately bridges and iconic Porto wine production, a city that in addition hosts several events, congresses, exhibitions and fairs, very active  in the MICE sector.

This advancing of the hospitality group's European expansion marks another milestone of The Social Hub that increases its company's portfolio to 20 locations across 18 relevant European cities, with plans for a Lisbon venue also underway.

The Social Hub Porto opening is the result of an investment €60.0 million and this launch will create 30 new jobs in Porto.The company said that Porto opening underscores its mission to connect travellers, digital nomads, young professionals, and locals in a vibrant, community - driven environment.

As a B Corp - certified company, the group declared to be committed to fostering community and creating social impact with plans to host more than 200 community events annually, including cooking classes, professional skill - building programs and various cultural initiatives.

The design of the new Portuguese hub aims to pays homage to the notable city's value with its Historic Centre declared a World Heritage Site in 1996, incorporating in its structure modern and contemporary elements.

The venue spans 11.200 square metres and it is located in the lively Bonjardim area, a captivating neighborhood of Porto, highlighted by excellent restaurants, colourful local shops and a vibrant nightlife, just steps away from the bustling Avenida dos Aliados, Rua de Santa Catarina, the historic market Mercado de Bolhão and just minutes away from relevant landmarks such the Palacio da Bolsa and the Church of San Ildefonso.

Amenities and services include 450 square metres of meeting and event areas, 580 square metres of coworking space, an interior courtyard garden, dining options as a full-service restaurant offering small plates and organic wines, a café serving specialty coffee form local roaster Combi alongside traditional pastel de nata and a rooftop cocktail bar. 

The Chief Operations and Commercial Officer, Marion Koopman said that this remarkable hub has a very special meaning for the company as it represents The Social Hub arrival to the dynamic Portuguese market.

Porto is the perfect place to embark on this journey, having worked closely with key city government players over the past four years.They from the very beginning, stressed the importance of sustainable development and embraced the value that The Social Hub unique community - centric model can bring to the community. 

The Social Hub currently boasts in its portfolio 23 properties across many important European cities including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Glasgow, Paris, Madrid and Vienna among others and in recently it expanded its brand into the Italian market with its second property in the capital of Tuscany, Florence.
