The city boats the largest number of fortifications in Europe with seven bastions and two fortress and in addition the emblematic medieval town walls dating from Moorish origin to the 12th centuries.
The development Vila Galé Casas d' Elvas hotel is the result of an investment of €6.0 million in the rehabilitation of the houses of the old plum factory and the historic buildings, one consisting in the ecclesiastical Ajube and the other, the Council of War, thus preserving the connection with the relevant history and culture of Elvas, a centre that fought to maintain the independence of Portugal and its history.

Vila Galé Hotéis believes that this investment will have a positive impact on the local economy by attracting new visitors and boosting commerce and culture in the region.
For the President of the group, despite its continued commitment to the rehabilitation of historic buildings, these investments also pose a challenge, as recovering historical heritage should be a national goal, but facing many bureaucratic barriers and lengthy processes.
What should be a simple process becomes a difficult path, with demands that delays projects and prevent their completion and in this case the State must be on the side of those who invest in the preservation of the Portuguese heritage.
