The first river park overlooking the Tiber is born in Rome, the capital and largest city of of Italy, and it is the one on the "Lungotevere delle Navi", between the Ponte del Risorgimento bridge that links the squares Piazzale delle Belle Arti to Piazza Monte Grappa in the Flaminio and Della Vittoria quarters and the Ponte Giacomo Matteotti bridge, formerly known as "Ponte del Littorio" , imposing structure that connects the two banks of the Tiber between the Rione Prati neighborhood, next to the square Piazza delle Cinque Giornate and the Flaminio district near Palazzo Marina.
In 12 months of work 700 trucks were used to pick up abandoned waste and reclaim the area creating a walkway close to river of almost 600 metres, completely sustainable, the lighting system is new, various rest areas have been created also suitable for educational activities,a development which saw the participation of architects, engineers, agronomists and local associations.
This development is part of of a project of the city of over €7.0 million investment to revitalise naturalistic areas of Rome, €800.000 used for this recently inaugurated section that means over one and half hectares returned to citizens.
The project focuses to recover five parks in Rome along the Tiber River thanks to the Jubilee funds and after this one inaugurated on the Lungotevere delle Navi within a month four more will open, from Ostia Antica ancient Roman settlement and the port of Rome located at the mouth of the Tiber, near modern Ostia, 25 kilometres southwest of the Italian capital to Acqua Acetosa.
Rome Mayor Gualtieri expressed his satisfaction and he thanks all those who contributed to the completion of the work inviting Roman citizens to use it as much as possible but with respect.
