Northampton, town and borough administrative and historic county of Northamptonshire in the Midlands region of England, UK, situated on the River Nene 97 km north - west of London and 80 km south - east of Birmingham, inhabited since the Bronze Age and site of settlements by Romans and Anglo - Saxons, a centre of relevant institutional and political interest in the Middle Ages, famous for its shoe industry that goes back hundreds of years in history has a new innovative tourist information point.
The Discover Northamptonshire tourist information point has opened irs doors at the Northampton Museum and Art Gallery located at 4 - 6 Guildhall Road, owned and run by West Northamptonshire Council and with the support of innovative technologies it offers a large map for tourists as well as an interactive screen for visitors.
The interactive screen has QR codes so people can download information about attractions they are interested in on their phones and it mirrors the Discover Northamptonshire hub already established at Rushden Lakes.
With this initiative a council hopes that this new tourist information point will showcase the very best of what a county has to offer.
Concerning the opening, Deputy Leader and cabinet member for local economy, culture and leisure at West Northamptonshire Council, James Petter, said that the county has an amazing array of places to see, we're just not very good about telling people about them, for example if you said to anyone "Northampton" they probably would' not known where it was on a map".
The Reform UK councillor said staff were already looking at other places around the county where information points could be installed.
Chairman of the Northamptonshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership, Richard Clinton, said that the information point was" really key" to the visitor economy.
