Cuba, island country located where the Northern Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, and Atlantic Ocean meet, a very attractive destination highlighted by a vibrant culture, several historical and natural attractions a rich biodiversity, pristine beaches, a mild climate all year round, and its capital Havana, captivating city, showcasing with the twists and turns of its compelling rich cultural heritage, history, diversity of its architecture and a unique atmosphere were nominated for the 2025 edition of the Wanderlust Travel Awards.
The Wanderlust Travel Awards, sponsored by Wanderlust Magazine, an independent, leading, and global travel magazine headquartered in in London, England, UK, which boasts a print circulation of close to 77.000 copies per edition and more than 345.000 readers combined between digital print and print formats in more than 70 countries,recognize excellence in the travel industry delivering prestigious accolades.
These awards are decided by public vote from Wanderlust readers, who cast votes for their favourite destinations, tour operators and travel brands with the awards ceremony, often held at iconic venues.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba revealed these nominations which means the confirmation of a solid presence of the country as relevant destination in the international tourism landscape.
The largest island of the Antilles also nominated in other years will compete in the categories Most Desirable Country in the World and Most Desirable Island in the World, while Havana does so in the Most Desirable City in the World section.
At the Wanderlust Awards Cuba also aspires for the following distinctions :
• Most desired country for its culture and heritage
• Most desired country for its nature and wildlife
• Most desired country for adventure
• Most desired country for its gastronomy
• Most desired country for its sustainability
According to the Cuba Foreign Ministry, the candidacies recognize the preference of travellers for natural landscapes, the warmth of inhabitants and the cultural richness of Cuba, and also, for its main city and capital, Havana.
The nomination for one of the most prestigious and influential awards in the tourism sector in the United Kingdom, organized since 1993 by Wanderlust demonstrates the recognition of both, the country and its capital, among the most beloved destinations in the world.
In addition the text states that the nominations also reaffirm the right of the Caribbean country to develop with dignity, sovereignty and respect for its cultural identity.
The Minister stated that Cuba has been among the favourite destinations of the British public. In previous editions, the notification points out, and refers to the award for the most desired island in the world in 2021, which reaffirms its positioning as a comprehensive tourist destination.
By 2025 more than 200.000 citizens are expected to vote and the result of their elections will be a reference for travellers and tourism professionals, as has been the case since the creation of the awards.
Voting will remain open until 17th October 2025, through the official website of the British magazine Wanderlust.
The Foreign Minster of Tourism of Cuba stressed that tourism is a strategic sector of the Cuban economy, an essential resource to generate income, employment and prosperity, especially in the context of the economic, commercial and financial blockade by the United States government.
Finally, the Minister said that a good result in the Wanderlust Travel Awards will contribute to strengthening Cuba's image as a responsible and sustainable destination, capable of attracting travellers from all over the world and diversifying its offer in culture, nature, adventure, gastronomy and sustainability.
