Larnaca, a relevant city located on the southeast coast of Cyprus in the Mediterrqanean sea, a short distance from the border of with the state of Northern Cyprus and Dehekelia, a British Overseas territory made of two - non contiguous area, capital of the district of the same name, a centre which boasts a rich cultural and historical heritage, built on the ruins of Citium, the ancient Greek city - state best known as the birthplace of stoic philosopher Zeno of Citium will have major upgrades of its marina after contract signing.
On 3rd July 2025, the Transport Ministry announced the signing of a contract for dredging works at Larnaca Marina. The contract was signed on behalf of the government by the Director of the Public Works Department, Elefherios Eleftheriou, and on Semesco Company Ltd by Philippos Psyllas.
The announcement also mentioned that the project forms part of a broader efforts to maintain and upgrade the marina's marina's facilities.
Larnaca Marina is the last European destination when travelling from Europe towards the Middle East or Asia via Suez Canal and the first destination when coming from these destinations to Europe. Larnaca Marina has a maximum capacity of 450 yachts and is an integral part of the historic city centre that starts outside its main gate located 7 km from Larnaca Airport, which is the major international airport of Cyprus and the main route of entry into the country.
The ministry explained that the project involves the dredging of the entrance and the harbour basin of the Marina, as well as the supply, installation and operation of two specialised periodic lighting mechanism (beacons) on the marina's lighthouses that will operate using solar energy by a photovoltaic system.
According to the contract details, the duration of the works is set to last for 20 weeks from the start date of the project.
The ministry said that during this period, the smooth operation will not disrupted. The signing of the contract follows a decision by the Council of Ministers reflecting the state's commitment to ensuring the safe operation of the marina and the the general development of the surrounding area.
