Turismo do Algarve, the Algarve Tourism Board, the public organization responsible for promoting tourism in the Algarve, southern region of Portugal, working to promote and dynamize destinations in cooperation with both public and private sectors, benefiting the region's economy and quality of life launched "Ria mais que Formosa" photography contest.
This initiative invites people to discover the Ria Formosa Natural Park through images that value and disseminate its natural and cultural wealth and the objective is to raise awareness of the protection of this unique ecosystem, the most important wetland in southern Portugal.
The Ria Formosa Natural Park stretching 60 kilometres along the Algarve coast, between the beaches of Garrão and Manta Rota is a wetland of international importance, the nature park occupies 17.900.77 hectares, set apart from the sea by a string of barrier islands and being fed in freshwater by small, seasonal water streams. Diverse habitats, such as dune, marshlands, muddy areas, pine woods, a maze of canals and agriculture fields.
Complete the set of this important territory a very relevant presence od differeny species of birds and a diverse marine fauna since the lagoon area area works as a nursery to some marine species.
Images of nature, culture and life in the Ria Formosa Natural Park are worth prizes as part of the photography contest that Turismo do Algarve has just launched awarding the best photographs in competition.

More than a contest, "Ria mais que Formosa", it is an invitation to creativity and environmental awareness, challenging amateur and professional photographers to capture what makes this protected landscape truly unique.
The contest, which is part of the "Promotion training and dissemination" application within the scope of the Co - management Plan of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, with the support of the Environmental Fund, is organized into three categories: Man and the Ria, Biodiversity, and Cultural Heritage. Each participant can submit up to three different photographs per category.
All participants will receive a diploma of participation, and the three best classified in each category will be distinguished with prizes : photographic material for the first places, stay on a houseboat in Ria Formosa for the second and rides on a solar boat for the third. In all, nine prizes will be awarded.
