Moskow, Russia | Concentrating Half of All International Tourist Bookings for the Country, According to a Report Released by the Ministry of Economic Development

Moskow,  metropolis situated in western Russia, the nation’s cosmopolitan capital on the Moskva River, a huge city that combines the best of old and modern architecture, highlighted by long avenues, leafy boulevards, majestic squares, extensive parks and gardens, new luxury housing, bridges, and unique cultural and historic sites linked to the Tsardom of Russia is concentrating half of all international tourist bookings for the country, according to a report released by the Ministry of Economic Development and spread by the multinational channel TVBRics.

The Russian capital is experiencing a surge in popularity as a tourist destination this summer, overall bookings for Russian accommodation have increased by 10% compared to last year, with Moskow being the primary driver of this growth, and the city’s hospitality industry is seeing increased occupancy rates, with hotels and other lodgings reaching 77% occupancy.

The note adds that in addition to Moskow, the most popular destinations this summer include St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, Kazan, Kalinigrad, Sochi, Irkutsk, Volgograd, Novosibirsk and Nizhny Novgorod.

The main flow of tourists visiting Moskow this summer is made by visitors from Belarus, India, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, China, Türkiye, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. 

Specialist in the sector point out that, in order to maintain the growth of international tourists having Moskow as destination, it is a key to meet the demands of travellers, providing them comfortable transfers, excursions in their language and services adapted to different cultural traditions.

Other successful actions concern to incentivize hotels and restaurants to raise their standards, strengthening Russian hospitality in the tourism market. 

 A further favourable boost for Moskow and Russian inbound tourism comes from accessibility. The elimination of the visa for visitors from Oman and the upcoming opening of direct flights with Saudi Arabia will undoubtedly increase tourist arrivals. The simplification of procedures and the improvement of the transport network are essential factors to consolidate inbound tourism and attract more visitors.

Director of the Department of Multinalateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development Nikita Kondratiev stressed that the increase in bookings confirms the interest in the country and that the capital remains a magnet for visitors.

The Official, added that in his opinion, inbound tourism in Russia has had a growing summer, as the number of accommodation bookings made by international tourists for the 2025 summer season has increased by 10% compared to last year.

In conclusion, Moskow’s tourism outlook is generally positive, the city keeps its appeal, with increasing international interest, particularly fro the Asia – Pacific and Middle East regions. The Russian capital is also experiencing growth in domestic tourism and business travel, and it is a focusing on leveraging technology and major events to enhance the visitor experience. However, the overall tourism landscape is still recovering from the impact of the pandemic and the ongoing geopolitical situation.
