The Pilanesberg National Park or Pilanesberg Game Reserve as it is often called, a provincial park in South Africa, northwest of Johannesburg in the Bojanala Region, within the North West Province situated in the ecological rich transition zone between the Kalahari and the Lowveld. It is the fourth largest park in the country and has significantly upgraded its conservation and enhanced anti - poaching capabilities through the installation of a smart radio network.
This modern digital radio communication system, part of an effort strategy to preserve the National Park, is a new infrastructure developed by Hytera Communication Corp Ltd, a China - based company providing professional communication technologies, equipment, software and overall solutions and implemented by local partner Sentiv, a firm based in Gauteng, expertising in mission - critical operations, IoT and secure networking.
This new system replaces outdated analogue radios and now provides near - complete coverage across 56.000 - hectare reserve home to the Big Five and critically endangered rhinos. The system includes GPS - enabled radios, emergency response features and real - time tracking, improving rangers safety and coordination in remote areas.
With tools such as "man down" alerts, emergency buttons, and encrypted communications, rangers, can now respond faster and more effectively to incidents.
Pilanesberg National Park with the implementation of this smart radio network joins other prominent reserves, including Kruger and Sabi Sabi in adopting advanced digital solutions as part of broader efforts to protect biodiversity and secure South Africa's natural heritage.
