Tampico, Mexico | Strengthening its Tourism Promotion Within the Federal Program “ Punto México”

Tampico, a city and port in the southeastern part of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, located on the north bank of the Pánuco River, about 10 kilometres inland from the Gulf of Mexico, a centre that offers a variety of attractions, including historical sites, natural landscapes and cultural experiences, famous for its architecture, which is often compared to that of New Orleans and Venice, as well for its culinary offer is strengthening its tourism promotion within the Federal Program “Punto México”. 

The mayor of Tampico Mónica Villareal Anaya, accompanied by Tamaulipas Tourism authorities and representatives of the state government presented in the capital of the country, Mexico City the tourist wealth of the municipality supported by this programme which refers to an initiative of the Mexican government, specifically within SECTUR, the Ministry of Tourism, that seeks to promote the balanced development of tourist destinations in Mexico.

“Punto México” focuses on ensuring a social and human rights - based approach in tourism, as well as strengthening market diversification, promoting sustainable tourism and seeking to support and finance various actions to achieve the objectives of the National Development Plan in the tourism sector.

During the event, the mayor of Tampico highlighted the potential of the destination in cultural, natural, gastronomic and sport areas, as well as its land, air, rail, and port connectivity with in addition highlighting the infrastructure that Tampico boasts, which includes academic, medical and tourism services.

Among the novelties, the mayor presented two tourism products such as : 

 • Aves de Tampico, Madero y Altamira - This Guide called Birds of Tampico, Madero, and Altamira is an initiative that seeks to document and photograph the birds that inhabit or visit the greater Tampico, Madero, and Altamira areas with the aim to create a visual reference of the local birdlife, either permanently or temporarily.

 •    La Ruta Nocturna de Cocodrilos – The Tampico Crocodile Night Tour is a tour of Laguna del Carpintero and the Cortadura Channel with the opportunity to observe the “Crocodylus moreletii£, Mexican crocodiles, often called “Juanchos” by locals, an attraction that has become a tourist attraction in the city, a tour that is a combination of nature, history and local legends.

In addtion were mentioned sites of relevance as part of Tampico tourist offer such as the Museum of the City, the Museum of the Huastecas and the Barco del Niño Museum. 

Tampico is experiencing a surge in domestic tourism, with a significant increase in visitors, particularly from Monterrey and it concentrates about 70% of Tamaulipas’ tourist influx. This participation in “Punto México” reaffirms its commitment to position itself as a vibrant destination with memorable experiences for visitors.
