Barcelona, the capital and largest city of the autonomous community of Catalonia, the second centre of Spain after Madrid, highlighted by a stunning blend of modern and historical landmarks with its iconic Modernist architecture, medieval marvels,urban beaches on the Mediterranean, and a vibrant film scene, providing a perfect backdrop to celebrate cinema’s power as a driver of sustainable tourism will host from 26th to 28th September the second Edition orf Travel Film Awards (TFA) .
The event will take place in Cinemas Girona, located at Carrer de Girona, 175 in the heart of L’ Exaimple, just below the Gràcia neighbourhood, a venue that represents the result of the renovation of the old cinemas standing for more than 35 years in the core of the Catalan city, transformed ijn an independent film theatre hosted in restored late 20th century building.
Beyond its top quality technical facilities Cinemas Girona, with three remodelled halls capable of seating more than 600 spectators is renowned for its curated program of European and international arthouse films, retrospective and special events.
The Travel Film Awards (TFA), a unique meeting point for filmmakers and tourism leaders with sustainability at heart is the world’s first international festival dedicated entirely to the intersection of cinema and travel.
TFA convenes travel sector stakeholders include accommodation, agencies, attractions, policymakers, transport and local / visiting audiences as well as the the audiovisual community represented by filmmakers, professionals and cultural influencers, catalysing connections and projects.
The event brings the audiovisual and tourism communities together in Barcelona to celebrate the power of travel storytelling and promote responsible tourism, anchored each year around the UN Tourism World Tourism Day on 27th September and the focus on “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”.
The program features some 30 short films in an international selection across multiple generes and categories, plus rich professional touch points include networking opportunities, a masterclass, an expert’s panel and curated film tours across the city with thoughtfully embedded.
Founder and Director of TFA, Masih Sharif said that TFA exists to bridge cinema and destinations, inspire more mindful journeys, and position Barcelona as a hub where travel stories drive real – world impact.
