Brazil, the largest and most populous country in Latin and South America has reached a historic milestone with record in international tourist arrivals welcoming 6.8 million visitors by 14th September 2025.
The figure represents 98.5% of the national target of 6.9 million tourists established under the National Tourism Plan 2024 - 2027 which aims to establish the country as South America’s leading tourism destination by attracting 8.1 million international visitors by 2027, supported by strategic principles of cooperation, sustainability, innovation and democratization.
The achievement was formally marked in Belem, the capital and largest city of the state of Pará in the north of Brazil, where national and regional authorities highlighted the country’s progress in strengthening connectivity as reported by the official website of Brazil’s Ministry of Tourism.
With this brilliant performance Brazil became the absolute leader in South America for international visitors, surpassing Argentina, and the country holds the 5th position in the regional ranking for the Americas, trailing only the United States, Mexico, Canada, and the Dominican Republic.
The government of Brazil has also set an objective : to welcome 10 million international visitors by the end of of 2025, consolidating tourism as a driver of economic development, job creation, and income generation across the country.
Brazilian authorities stressed that in addition to improved flight connectivity, the country has intensified its presence at major tourism fairs, expanded digital promotion campaigns and invested in tourism infrastructure.
These measures aim to diversify attractions across all regions and enhance the overall quality of the visitor experience.
The Ministry of Tourism also announced updates to the Official Tourism Events Calendar, enabling states to the directly register local events. This reform is designed to strengthen integration among national destinations and broaden opportunities for international promotions.
