Chile | MICE Expedition : an Initiative to Position the Country as a Leading Global Destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions

 Chile is actively working to enhance its MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exibitions) sector focusing on its diverse natural landscapes, sophisticated urban centres, providing unique experiences in unique regions from the Atacama Desert, Patagonia, the Andean territory to wine valleys, its Pacific coast and the capital Santiago and for that launched MICE Expedition to establish the country as a shining star in the international landscape in this tourism area.

The South American country leverages its stunning scenery, a rich biodiversity, historical and natural attractions, modern infrastructure, outstanding venues and great gastronomic offerings to create memorable corporate events, and successful incentive trips, and with an initiative like Expedition MICE aims to solidify its position as a leading global destination in this segment.

MICE Expedition 2025 in its first edition opened the doors to showcase the country’s enormous potential as a top destination for conferences, events of all kinds, and incentive trips, with SERNATUR, the National Tourism Service,  public organisation in charge of promoting and disseminating the development of Chile’s tourism activity as a driver to consolidate the country as a strategic, competitive, and sustainable destination in the international market.

Through this initiative, whose motto is “Indomitable Spirit”, representatives of companies specializing in comprehensive corporate event management, incentive agencies and DMC organizations offering diverse solutions for all types of events and corporate travel from various countries visited Chile to know different destinations and the infrastructure they offer for the development of meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions, recognising the more than relevant potential the South American country boasts.

On the opening day of the meeting SERNATUR welcomed the delegations of 32 companies from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and the United States, and the institution’s national director, Cristóbal Benítez, delivered an opening address highlighting the importance of this initiative for the national industry, reaffirming the country’s commitment to leading the MICE segment in Latin America.

The official expressed his enthusiasm to kick of this MICE Expedition, a unique event with more than 30 corporate travel, incentive travel, and association firms. The operators had the opportunity tour the country exploring emerging destinations in the north, the centre, and exploring the best Chile offers in terms of conferenece and incentive travel, and finally culminating in a major MICE tourism business roundtoable.

 The SERNATUR head stated that the success of the meeting represents the continuation to strengthen conference and event tourism in Chile and he also emphasized that this a unique opportunity to showcase the competitive advantages that Chile offers : first - class infrastructure, connectivity, specialized services, and an unparelleled diversity of natural settings for events, conferences and incentive trips.

Between August 25 and 28 participants experienced familiarization trips that allowed them to discover emblematic destinations in the country, such as Casa Molle in the Coquimbo Region, Huilo - Huilo in the Los Ríos Region, as well as the capital of the country, Santiago and the captivating and glamorous Viña del Mar, a relevant educational trip to experience the infrastructure and tourism offerings that Chile offers within the MICE segment.

The experience culminated on August 29 with a roundtable in Santiago, where pre - scheduled meetings were held to generate direct business opportunities, establishing strategic alliances, and exploring new collaborations.

Chile is now one of the region’s leading event destinations, supported by its recent outstanding position in the ICCA 2024 ranking, where Santiago ranked third in the Americas and 33rd worldwide, surpassing major cities such as Bogottá, Lima, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Toronto.

Next to these brilliant achievements Expedition MICE 2025 represents a continuation where Chile takes a firm step topward strengthening MICE tourism, reaffirming its regional leadership and international reach.
