Egypt | Planning 30% Expansion of National Airline Fleet and Projects to Attract More Tourists

 Egypt tourism performances are exceptionally strong breaking records with 15.7 million visitors in 2024 and projecting event higher number for 2025, driven by record breaking visitors spending and significant economic contributions and Egypt Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting of the ministerial committee to discuss plans and projects to strengthen furthermore the tourism sector and increasing tourist arrivals as reported by Sada El - Balad,  well known news website and satellite television channel established in 2011.

The Egyptian tourism sector is seeing strong demand, the country improved flight connectivity, and infrastructure investment, leading a powerful resurgence and surpassing pre - pandemic employment levels, the Minister highlighted the recent growth in arrivals and described tourism as one of Egypt’s fastest - growing sectors and a key source for foreign currency. 

The Minister said that the Government, in coordination with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, is working on a plan to increase the national airline fleet by about 30% in the coming period.

Egyptair,
the flagship carrier of the North African country already offers extensive global connectivity as a Star Alliance member, with a hub at Cairo International Airport, serving several destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe and North America, along with domestic and regional flights.

The national carrier’s network is enhanced by code - share agreements with other airlines providing access to more than 1.160 airports in 192 countries. Next to this increase the national airline fleet by about 30%, the country has ambitious plans to double its airport capacity by 2030.

The meeting also addressed the role of cultural activities in attracting more tourists. The Ministry of Culture was tasked with preparing a project includes a monthly calendar of concerts, festivals, and theatre events across Egypt. 

Minister of Culture Ahmed Heno highlighted that more than 55 cultural festivals are already being organised annually, alongside international activities in cooperation with UNESCO. 

Finally, in the meeting Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy presented recent growth figure in visitor numbers and outlined efforts to ease licensing procedures and attract private investment in hotel projects.
